The Real Installation Details

If you're putting these in, here is the technical reality you need to know before you pull wire:

1. The 50-Amp Hardwire Reality

While the plug-in NEMA 14-50 version maxes out at 40 amps of continuous output (on a 50A breaker), the hardwired units can be clocked up to a full 50 amps.

Note: To deliver that full 50A continuous charge, you must supply it with a 70A circuit and size your wire accordingly.

2. Service Load Flexibility

If the home's panel is tight and a service upgrade isn't in the budget, you aren't stuck. The hardwired unit can be clocked down during commissioning to run on smaller circuits (all the way down to 16A output on a 20A breaker). You can match the charger to the home's available capacity without tripping the main.

3. Smart Software, Fewer Callbacks

Homeowners want to track their energy costs and schedule charging for off-peak utility hours. Because this hardware runs on the standard ChargePoint app platform, the setup is straightforward for the end user. Once you verify the hardware is hot, they can handle the Wi-Fi provisioning themselves.
